Some common questions we get asked

What is Ag Asisst?

Ag Assist is an online platform that connects workers with businesses operating in New Zealand’s thriving Food and Fibre sector.

Is Ag Assist a labour hire company?

No, Ag Assist is not a labour hire company. We do not directly employ workers. Instead, we serve as a facilitator enabling workers to interact directly with the relevant businesses. The nature of employment, whether as an employee or an independent contractor, is determined by the preferences, which the worker can specify in their online profile.

How does the employment relationship work on Ag Assist?

On Ag Assist, workers have the flexibility to select their employment type. When signing up, they can opt to be either an employee or an independent contractor, with the choice specified in their online profiles. This flexibility empowers them to tailor their work arrangement to suit their needs. Contract arrangements are ultimately the responsibility of the worker and the hiring business.

Are there any legal implications for workers based on their choice of employment type?

The choice of employment type (employee or independent contractor) can have legal and tax implications. Workers should be aware that their selection may affect their tax obligations. It’s advisable to consult with a legal or tax professional to fully understand the consequences of their choice.

How do I pay the workers as a business owner?

Paying your workers on Ag Assist is a streamlined process:

  • Timesheet Submission: Workers capture their timesheets on the platform, detailing their hours worked.
  • Location Manager (farmer) Approval: Timesheets are then reviewed and approved by the location manager on the business app, ensuring accuracy.
  • Access in Business App/Portal: Once approved, the timesheet information becomes accessible in the business app or portal for your convenience. If the worker is an employee, this is where payroll can be executed, ensuring a seamless and efficient payment process. If the worker is a contractor they will typically send you an invoice after the completion of the agreed work.
How does Ag Assist benefit businesses and workers?

Ag Assist provides a win-win solution for both businesses and workers. Businesses can access an on-demand workforce, while workers have the opportunity to connect with businesses looking for their expertise. This streamlined connection process is designed to create mutually beneficial relationships in the Food and Fibre Sector.
