Herd Manager- Waitaki Valley

Ashvale Farming is looking for a full time herd manager to join our team for the 26/27 season and help run the 220 effective ha, 730 cow farm with Halter! We are a young progressive couple going into our 5th season contract milking and are looking for our next superstar to join us due to one of our current employees retiring. The predominately flat farm runs a low input yet fully fed system, milking the herd through a 50 bale rotary with ACRs, automatic teat-sprayer, flood yard wash, Protrak and in-shed feeding. The property is irrigated by a mix of pivots, fixed grid and K-lines. We spring calve all cows and winter them at the adjacent support block, all part of the same platform. All youngstock are grazed off farm and are managed by the farm owners. The team will comprise of the contract milking couple plus one farm assistant and our current herd manager. As a couple we are a big believer in keeping things simple and efficient and aim to provide a job where farming can become your passion. We are looking for someone with 1-2 years of on farm experience and can confidently carry out all basic on farm tasks to a high standard. We have great progression on offer, looking for long term staff wanting to progress alongside us as we progress towards our own goals. We have a large focus on people and animal wellbeing while maintaining high standards in the cowshed. Competitive pay and either a large 4 bedroom homestead, with log burner or a 2 bedroom cottage with log burner is available depending on the successful applicant. The farm is located in the Waitaki Valley 15 minutes from Kurow, 35 minutes from Oamaru and 25 minutes to the lakes. With a large hill and river block attached the hunting and fishing opportunities right on farm are endless.
